Doodlebug, my nickname for my baby girl. My father had a nickname for each of the four of us. Why he chose Skeezix for me has been a life long mystery. What prompts any of us to choose a certain nickname for our peeps is a mystery.
When our daughter was born, Ken called her “Boo Boo” as in Yogi Bear’s buddy. “Hey, Boo BOO!” I chose Doodlebug. I still call her Doodlebug or Doodle ~ just between her and me.
When she and I were selecting flowers for the garden of the first house she and Mark purchased, we discovered Siloam Doodlebug daylilies. Perfect don’t you think? Clear lemon yellow with a deep purple eye. Striking. Like our daughter. Like our Doodlebug.
We later planted the same variety of daylilies in the Sidewalk House garden. Blooming up a storm these last few weeks, we have viewed them from a distance, leaving them to close one day’s petals and open another the next day.
Yesterday on his morning garden stroll, Captain Romance, a/k/a Granddaddy Old Fart* (one of many nicknames), cut a few flowers to bring inside. Single stems arranged in single bloom vases on a family room table showcased once more the mindboggling creativity of our heavenly Father! And family connections.
Celebrating the love and beauty with which our lives are enhanced by Doodlebugs.
Hugs, Jackie a/k/a “My Sweet!” (one of many nicknames)
